All Season Scarf

A colorful all season scarf, perfect for a cooling night. Hand made in Guatemala of 100% cotton and the extra large size means it can be worn either as a conventional scarf or over the shoulders as a stole.

Choice of four colors: Sunset Orange, Earth Reds, Ocean Blue and Meadow Green.

About the project: This small weaving group is made up of extended family members- Sons, daughters, aunts, sisters and grandmothers- that have passed their weaving skills down through the generations.

Back strap and foot loom weaving methods have been used in Maya communities for hundreds of years, and often ancient images are woven into the fabric to tell stories and keep family histories alive.

Foot loomed fabric such as this scarf, is predominantly made by the men, however this group of weavers is made up of mixed sexes. The income generated from this project provides stability for several families, and the possibility of continuing education for young men and women in this community.
