Hmong Embroidered Book Marker

Description

This intricately woven bookmark was hand-embroidered by a member of the Hmong tribe working with a Thai Fair Trade company. The Hmong people live in mountainous regions of China, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. This group has supported itself for the most part by the cultivation of the opium poppy for many generations. Some of the Hmong people are turning from opium growing, and are now seeking to work through the market to sell their exquisite needlework in order to supplement their income.
